How is an LLC taxed?By default an LLC is a pass-through entity. The profits and losses for the LLC "pass-through" to the owner's personal taxes. The LLC does not pay taxes.

How long does it take to start my company?Excited about your new company? We are! LifeWise Legal typically processes all new orders within 1 business day. Once we have prepared the documents and obtained any required signatures, we will send the documents to the proper department in your state for processing. Processing times for states vary but usually take anywhere from 7-14 business days to complete.

What is an EIN?An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, and is used to identify a business entity. Generally, businesses need an EIN.

How is corporation taxed?By default a corporation is taxed as a separate entity and pays its own taxes in addition to the owners. Some businesses may be eligible to elect an S corp status with the IRS which will provide pass through benefits to the owners. This means that the corporation will not pay any taxes. Rather the profits and losses "pass through" to the owners personal taxes.

What happens if I do not have a living will?Each state has different laws on who and how your healthcare decisions will be made if there is no living will in place. This means that someone else will be making decisions on your behalf that may not be what you want.

What happens if I do not have a last will?If a person passes away without a last will, then the process of intestate succession begins. Every state has different laws for intestate succession. The most common solution is to parcel out property to the decedent’s next of kin. An executor needs to be assigned to perform this task, so a list of those eligible to fill that role will be created. If probate is necessary, the court will appoint someone from the list of eligible people to administer the estate. With no last will, the basic rules of intestate succession will be followed and may fall outside the bounds of the decedent’s wishes.

Do I need a health care power of attorney?A health care power of attorney is typically used in combination with a living will. A living will will only become effective if you are incapacitated and a doctor renders your condition terminal. With a health care power of attorney your condition does not need to be rendered terminal in order for the healthcare power of attorney to become effective.

In order to have a complete plan for the future you must also consider things such as if you would like to have life-prolonging treatment if you are incapacitated, who do you want to speak on your behalf about your medical decisions if you can't and who will handle your financial affairs if you are unable to.
